The African Child Policy Forum (ACPF) is announcing the Third International Policy Conference on the African Child, which will take place on 12-13 May 2008 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The conference will engage leading African statesmen, world authorities on child rights and child poverty, researchers, government officials, opinion makers, child rights activists and officials from regional and international agencies to address key issues that ought to be at the forefront of the development agenda.
Child poverty is a major, possibly the biggest obstacle for the fulfilment of rights in Africa. Our knowledge of it, however, is limited. What little we know is based on scattered empirical data and anecdotal evidence. We don’t know enough about the nature, dimension and magnitude of the problem. Nor do we know enough about what is being done to address it or how to deal with it. These are some of the themes included in the Conference Programme.
The conference will be organised in partnership with International Child Support (ICS), ILO/IPEC, IOM, Plan International, UNFPA and UNICEF, among others.
